It is a well known fact that research in the field of art education is still in its infancy, small in quantity and mediocre or poor in quality. In an age characterised by science and technology, research has obviously become a necessary pre-condition for every human endeavour to achieve striking results. In an attempt to change this depressing picture, the institution has set up a Research Wing which is engaged in the task of collecting the treasures of ancient art of the old masters and pundits for preserving them in their original form as also for re-shaping them, where found useful, to produce new styles, rhythms and compositions with the latest techniques in the music and dance to suit the tastes and requirements of the present generation. This wing is further charged with the responsibility of providing effective guide-lines to the students doing courses of advance study to enable them to complete their doctoral work without wasting their valuable time and energy. The other important work is the undertaking of research project on folk music and folk dances relating to various regions, territories and States. The institution has already completed the research project on the folk music and folk dances of Kulu and Kangra valleys at the instance of the Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi and this has won all round appreciation. The institution is seriously planning to undertake more such research projects particularly concerning those areas and territories, which are genuinely replete with the invaluable wealth of ancient cultural arts, in one form or the other, in collaboration with the concerned governments, Group or individuals for the further upliftment and development of music and dance. The institution is having the desired trained investigators, researchers and surveyors to undertake the work of data processing, statistical analysis and their consolidation.
